"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey, join here beneath the Sunrock for a clan meeting."
Foxstar's call echoed throughout camp, sharp in the light morning air. The skies were a pale gray, the sun rising in the distant horizon.
Cats padded carefully out of their dens, jaws stretched in a yawn. Their eyes were still clouded, obviously not hit by the impact of reality yet. The dark ginger tom smiled, half amusement and half sorrow. He couldn't help but remember the days before MistClan took a worthy warrior from them.
"Cats of SunClan," His voice was confident, the complete opposite of what he had been feeling inside. "We have some unfinished business to do here. One of which is delayed ceremonies. First of all, however, we have three cats joining us this morning."
Foxstar dipped his head to the first cat: a ginger and white she-cat with amber eyes. "Flicker, do you promise to follow the Warrior Code and to keep your loyalty to SunClan even to the death?"
The newcomer smiled, nodding confidently. "I do."
"Then from now on, you will be known as Flickerpaw. May StarClan honor your commitment to this clan."
Flickerpaw nodded, eyes shining.
The ceremony continued with the two of her siblings, soon named Olivepaw and Rowanpaw. They dipped their heads politely and looked as proud as their sister.
"Ravenswoop, as my loyal deputy, I trust you to mentor Flickerpaw. May you pass on what you know to this apprentice. Olivepaw, as for you, your mentor will be one of our senior warriors. Nightbreeze, pass on your knowledge to her. And finally, Rowanpaw, you will be mentored by Duskpelt, who is ready for an apprentice. Make this apprentice a worthy warrior to look up to."
The camp was soon filled with the chants of the new cats' names. Foxstar looked down at his clan, smiling slightly.
"Meeting dismissed."

Flickerpaw bounced up and down as she touched noses with Ravenswoop, her new mentor. I'm a deputy's apprentice! she thought excitedly. She was thrilled that she had been honored in this way, and was eager to learn all that she could. "So," she said, "what are you going to teach me first?"
ReplyDeleteOlivepaw nodded her head politely to Nightbreeze. She didn't say a word, but her eyes were shining with hidden excitement.
Rowanpaw dipped his head to Duskpelt. He was a little uneasy at having such a young warrior for a mentor, but a cat had to start somewhere, right? Besides, Duskpelt was probably the right age to both understand younger cats, and feel for them.
Dawnkit, Galekit and Silverkit bounded out of the nursery for the first time and went over to the newest apprentices.
ReplyDelete"Hiya!" Galekit said looking up at them. Dawnkit and SIlverkit grinned.
(Oh...about the young warrior thing, we didn't have enough and that was the oldest warrior I could find without an apprentice. ^^'')
ReplyDelete(Yeah, I understand! It was really just Rowanpaw's reaction, not mine. He's just a bit judgmental sometimes, haha. I think it's great to have younger warriors train apprentices, it gives them experience.)
ReplyDeleteOlivepaw looked down at the energetic kits. "Hi," she said, flicking her tail happily. She loved kits. They were so cute, with their high pitched voices and boundless energy. It was hard to believe that she had been just like them, not so long ago. Olivepaw's eyes darkened as she remembered her parents, both killed in a forest fire a few moons ago. Oddly enough, that same fire had caused Olivepaw and her siblings to flee from their previous home ground into SunClan territory, which had now become their new home.
Shaking her head to clear it of such dark thoughts, she focused on the kits again. "What are your names?" she asked kindly.
~Olivepaw
Ravenswoop smiled at the energetic young apprentice and replied, "First, we're going to explore the WHOLE territory and see everything so you can know your surroundings."
ReplyDelete(Oh, alright. That's good, then. ^-^)
ReplyDelete(And Shadow, you actually made that sound exciting. xD)
Galekit smiled, "I'm Galekit."
ReplyDeleteSilverkit's silver eyes met Olivepaw's green ones, "Silverkit." She cocked her head to one side and smiled sweetly.
Dawnkit bouced up and down, "I'm Dawnkit!"
"Great!" Flickerpaw said excitedly, glad that her mentor was going to let her go on such an important lesson on the first day. "When do we leave?"
ReplyDeleteOlivepaw smiled down at the kits. "I'm pleased to meet you all," she said.
All three kits beemed.
ReplyDeleteEmberflair watched her kits.
Dreamfeather nodded to the newest cats then slipped into her den.
Falconfeather looked to Glarepaw, "You wanna go train."
