Curious, she set her path toward the forest, ducking under the foliage as her gaze focused on two she-cats. One no older than an apprentice and the other staring at her, surprised.
Falconfeather smiled faintly, flicking her tail invitingly at the two. "Hey, what are you two doing out here?"
The older one stepped up. "We found this place first," she growled. "Find another place to live." Her eyes gave a lot away: they'd been looking for a home for some time now, surviving the groups of rogues.
Falconfeather shook her head. "You can join our clan, if you need a home. I mean, we could use more clan members anyway." Her ear flicked in the direction of camp.
The younger one stared at her uncomprehendingly. "There are other cats here? But we didn't scent any here!"
The warrior shrugged. "Did you want to join or not?"
The brown-gray she-cat nodded. "Yeah, it...would be a good idea to join."
Falconfeather smiled. "Alright! Names, please?"
They looked at each other, then the smaller one spoke up. "Darkpaw. She's Rainheart."
"You already have clan names?"
Rainheart nodded. "We escaped from another clan before..." she trailed off.
Falconfeather stared at them for a moment longer, then headed in the direction of camp. "SunClan's this way."
-------
Lionstrike had been thinking about his conversation with Featherstar. And then came the deputy that had started questioning him. If Ravenswoop found out...
Before he had time to finish the thought, a menacing yowl pierced through the night. The warrior knew the voice well...
Foxstar had approached a group of cats, snarling. "What are you doing here?"
Featherstar stared back at the leader calmly. "Visiting our new rival clan. Is that against the Warrior Code nowadays?"
Foxstar was left speechless.
Lionstrike padded out of his den, staring at the gray pelt outlined against the light of the moon. "Featherstar?"
Featherstar glanced at Lionstrike, regarding him. Her jaws parted to say something, but was cut off by Shadowflower.
The tuxedo she-cat was staring straight at Lionstrike. "You know her?"
The ginger warrior shook his head nervously. "No, I...just heard of her. She-She's the leader of MistClan, right?"
Foxstar frowned. "Yes, but I don't remember telling you about her...She was my old enemy from the last forest."
Lionstrike shrugged. "Maybe I overheard you?"
The leader's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Talking to whom?"
"I'm...not sure."
Ravenswoop stared at the warrior intently. His eyes...it looked the same as it had when he had encountered the warrior on the shoreline. Was he lying to SunClan itself?
Featherstar had watched the whole conversation, from warrior to leader. "I'm sure he's heard of it somewhere. I mean, I was widely known in the last forest."
Foxstar nodded slowly. "Fine, whatever," he growled. "Now are you done visiting?"
Featherstar swept her gaze across camp. "Yes, I'm done. Nice meeting you all."
When the leader of MistClan had left, Ravenswoop glanced in the direction of the entrance. Falconfeather was walking in with two cats close behind. They hadn't heard a thing...
Ravenswoop glanced at where Lionstrike was, hoping to make eye contact, but the warrior was already back in the den.
What's going on? He wasn't like this before...
As Rainheart was padding away from the fresh-kill pile, a plump mouse in her jaws, she spotted a flash of bright ginger just at the corner of her eye. She walked towards the warriors' den, her mouse swinging back and forth as she walked.
ReplyDeleteShe ducked under the den entrance into the gloomy coolness inside. The dry dirt crunched underneath her paws as she dropped her meal with a thud.
When she lifted her head back up, the same ginger warrior she saw was laying down, his tail curled over his nose. Rainheart looked more intently at his resting figure. "He's not sleeping..." she thought to herself.
She approached him, taking her food along with her. "Hey, I don't think I've met you yet. I'm Rainheart. Do you wanna share some of this with me?" Her large eyes glittered as she spoke.
~**Rainheart**~
Lionstrike glanced up at the cat, not knowing she hadn't seen Featherstar, therefore not having suspicion against the warrior. "Lionstrike," he growled. His eyes fickered with no interest as he looked from Rainheart to the mouse, and back to the gray-brown warrior. "Not hungry."
ReplyDeleteLionstrikexx
Rainheart glared back at him. "GEEZ I WAS JUST ASKING A NICE, POLITE QUESTION. AND ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU GROWL OUT SHORT ANSWERS WITH NO INTEREST!" she padded to the opposite end of the den and laid down, staring at him from under her tail. The mouse laid a few fox-lengths away, untouched.

Lionstrike snarled at the warrior as she left his side. "Who does she think she is, the leader of the clan or something?" he muttered under his breath. "I've been here longer and she feels as if she has the right to scold me like some kit." He stole a glance in Rainheart's direction, hatred lingering in his eyes. "Whatever. Just as long as she stays out of my way." He stood up, shot a scowl in the other warrior's direction, and made his way out of the den.

Rainheart didn't acknowledge Lionstrike as he went out. She stared at her piece of prey and decided to take it back to the fresh-kill pile. I'm not even hungry anymore...not with THAT piece of fox-dung pissing me off.
ReplyDeleteAs she got up, mist slowly drifted into the den. What the heck...?
~**Rainheart**~
Falconfeather stood in the middle of camp, then turned to Dreamfeather, "What was that all about?" She asked.
ReplyDeleteDreamfeather stood up, "Someone named Featherstar." She yawned and turned towards her den, "Most of the cats here don't seem to like her. And it looks like Lionstrike some how knows her.."
As Lionstrike stalked angrily out of the Warriors Den into the Camp Clearing, a look of concern spread over Ravenswoop's face. He padded over cautiously and mewed,
ReplyDelete"Are you alright, Lionstrike?"
Lionstrike glanced up, his face blank. "Yeah...yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" It was a mouse-brained question, but he had nothing else to say.
ReplyDeleteLionstrikexx
"You seem upset. No.. You are upset." Ravenswoop paused, then mewed carefully, "Why are you? You can tell me, you know. I wouldn't be much of a Deputy if no one could trust me with their problems."
ReplyDeleteLionstrike shook his head. "It's not that I don't trust you. I just have a lot on my mind." His eyes shown with bitter regret. "It's nothing."
ReplyDeleteLionstrikexx
Ravenswoop blinked. "It can't be nothing.. But I'll respect your privacy. Sorry to bother you.." The dark Deputy murmured.
ReplyDelete"But if you ever need somecat to talk to, you have me. And Foxstar. And Dreamfeather. Alright?"
Lionstrike nodded wearily. "Yeah. Thanks, I guess."
ReplyDeleteLionstrikexx
Dreamfeather shifted her wight then decided to go get something to eat. She padded over to the fresh kill pile and noticed it was almost empty. Dreamfeather shrugged then padded over to Ravenswoop. She stopped and waited for the two toms to stop talking. "Hey Ravenswoop." She mewed, "The fresh kill pile is nearly empty, I was thinking of collecting some herbs, so, if you'd like I can see if I can catch a mouse or two."
ReplyDelete~~*Dreamfeather*~~
"Sure.." Ravenswoop mewed, abstractly staring into the distance.
ReplyDeleteDreamfeather nodded and padded out of camp. Her black fur blending into the shadows of the entrance.
